Control Methods for Doubly-Fed Reluctance Machines

The paper considers aspects of scalar V/f control, vector control and direct torque (and flux) control (DTC) of an emerging cost-effective technology for limited speed range applications the brushless doubly fed reluctance machine (BDFRM). Apart from giving a comprehensive review of the various control methods, its major contribution is the presentation and experimental verification of a sensorless DTC scheme which, unlike most of the existing algorithms, can perform well down to zero supply frequency of the inverter-fed winding.
